Jeep is an American car brand who has become synonymous with exciting off-road exploration vehicles. The word Jeep is in fact routinely used all over the world as a synonym for an off-road vehicle, even to describe those cars which are perhaps better titled Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs). Because that company was very small, Ford helped produce the first Jeeps to meet the high demand of the military. From this humble beginning, Jeep, currently a subsidiary of Daimler/Chrysler, has emerged, changing from owner to owner, but never wavering in its dedication to the perfect off-road, rugged vehicle (though recent Jeeps strive to combine comfort and functionality). Jeep was owned by Willys-Overland when they won the contract for the U.S. army. Kaiser bought Willys in 1953 and Jeep along with it. In 1970, American Motor Company purchased Jeep from Kaiser, and then itself was bought out by Chrysler in 1987. Here are the top used Jeep models.Used Jeep Wrangler

Used Jeep Wrangler

The Jeep Wrangler is all about fun and freedom. Originally designed as a wartime workhorse for the army, the versatile Jeep is well suited for off-road recreational activities. The Jeep has undergone few changes over the years because change has been predominantly unnecessary. There have been refinements over the years, but a Jeep is always recognizably a Jeep. As with any off-road vehicle, there are many more moving parts, increasing the need for repairs as the vehicle ages, and lowering fuel efficiency. The all-new for 2007 Active Sway Bar System (ASBS), an electronic-disconnecting front stabilizer bar, provides support on harsh trails and pushes the vehicle's Ramp Travel Index (RTI, measuring the suspension articulation) up 28 percent to 652. The 2007 Wrangler got a redesign andis bigger, more powerful and offers a four-door version for the first time. The exterior is styled with classic round headlights, signature seven-slot grille, trapezoid wheel flares, exposed forged hinges, a fold-down windshield, sports bar and removable tops and doors. Used Wrangler cabins features a larger front-seat area, more shoulder room and hip room, new instrument panel, center stack and high-back front bucket seats.

Used Jeep Compass

Used Jeep CompassThe first FWD Jeep vehicle with fully-independent suspension, the Compass aims to attract non-traditional Jeep buyers, expanding the brand into new demographics. The Jeep brand expanded into new territory with the 2007 Jeep Compass, the initial model year. The Compass is a modern-styled Jeep vehicle that delivers fun, freedom, utility and Jeep 4x4 capability. Jeep Compass provides exceptional fuel economy, a long list of safety features and interior flexibility, all at a great value. Based on the Jeep Compass concept first introduced at the 2005 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, the 2007 Jeep Compass is an all-new product that combines the packaging and functionality of a sport-utility vehicle (SUV) with the performance, handling, fuel economy and price of a compact car or small pickup. Used Jeep Compass models are available in both front- and four-wheel drive. Jeep Compass competes in the compact SUV segment, which is expected to grow considerably in the next decade, giving the Jeep brand the opportunity to grow with it. Annual compact SUV volume in the United States for the 2004 calendar year was 297,000 units or 1.7 percent of the market. The Jeep Compass features the brand’s signature seven-slot grille, round headlamps and trapezoidal wheel openings. However, there also are several modern design twists that distinguish Compass from traditionally styled Jeep vehicles. The silhouette, with a steeply raked windshield, expressive hood and deep fascia, gives the Jeep Compass its modern, yet capable appearance.

Used Jeep Patriot

USed Jeep PatriotThe Jeep Patriot is a small SUV that is both capable on the road and off. Although the base model is not Trail Rated without the addition of optional equipment, the vehicle boasts significant ground clearance and a considerable suite of safety features. These include ABS, stability control, and electronic roll mitigation. The Used Patriot is the more traditional-looking of Jeep's two debut models for 2007. Released on the heels of its car-based counterpart, the Compass, it displays more of the squareness that has marked Jeep vehicles over the decades. A properly-equipped Patriot 4x4 will be at ease on the trails, although the reality is that it is based on a car, the Dodge Caliber, and its steering and suspension are thusly tuned. This was Jeep's intention, as the Patriot is meant to appeal to those who want a road car first and a fairly tough trail vehicle for the occasional weekend foray.  That said, the loaded 4x4 is definitely superior to its entry-level sport-ute competition. Its Off-Road options group adds descent control, low-range gearing, brake-lock differentials, skid plates, tow hooks, fog lamps, a heavy-duty cooling system, and a full-sized spare tire in addition to a bonus inch of ground clearance.

Used Jeep Liberty

Used Jeep LibertyThe Jeep Liberty was first introduced as a replacement to the ever popular Cherokee.  Used Jeep Liberty models are similar to the Cherokee with its upright body design, yet it has taken leaps forwards in modern technology, style, and abilities. The Liberty enters 2007 without its diesel engine option. The sole engine is a 210-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 that produces 235 pounds-feet of torque. It teams with either a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The Liberty is offered with either rear- or four-wheel drive. Solidly constructed, the Liberty offers quick, precise steering with moderate effort and it's a pleasant driving experience. The ride is surprisingly easygoing on smooth roads, and it doesn't deteriorate much when the pavement gets rough. Either six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission are available.  Liberty SUVs have a coil-spring independent front suspension and a solid rear axle with coil springs. The spare tire is mounted externally on a swing-out tailgate with flip-up glass. Wheels are 16 inches in diameter (17 inches on the Limited). Available skid plates cover the fuel tank and transfer case, and an optional Trailer Tow Group yields a 5,000-pound towing capacity.

Used Jeep Commander

Used Jeep CommanderJeep's first seven-passenger SUV was introduced in 2006 as a new model, so changes for the 2007 run are minimal. A new Overland version is available and comes standard with the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8, 18-inch wheels and specific interior and exterior trim. The mid-level 4.7-liter V-8 is now available with E85/flex-fuel capability and there's an available power liftgate and rearview camera.  With its sharp-edged lines, upright windshield and bold front grille, the Commander pays homage to classic Jeep styling. The 3.7-liter, 210-horsepower V-6 carries over as the standard engine in the base Sport model, with the 235-horsepower 4.7-liter V-8 in the Limited. Three full-time four-wheel-drive systems are offered in addition to standard-issue rear-wheel drive. The top Quadra-Drive II system utilizes electronic limited-slip differentials to afford maximum trail-forging abilities. The 2007 Commander is a 4-door, 7-passenger sport-utility, available in 6 trims, ranging from the Sport 4X2The Overland 4X4 is equipped with a standard 5.7-liter, V8, 330-horsepower engine that achieves 14-mpg in the city and 18-mpg on the highway.
