2010 Jeep Liberty Featuring a Brand New Renegade Trim Des Moines

The Jeep Liberty comes in Sport, Limited, and Renegade editions for the 2010 model year. For 2010, the Liberty gets a standard fuel shut-off system that turns off fuel when the vehicle is decelerating. There's also a standard fuel-saving indicator that lights up in the odometer to notify the driver when the vehicle is being driven in a fuel-efficient manner. Also, the Liberty gets a brand new trim: the Renegade. Positioned between the Sport and Limited models, the Renegade features Select-Trac II full-time, shift-on-the-fly, active four-wheel-drive system, in a unique rugged new design. One of the more interesting features in the five-seat Jeep Liberty small SUV is its optional Sky Slider movable canvas roof. The Jeep Liberty offers a good compromise between road-worthiness and off-highway capability for a compact SUV.

'10 Jeep Liberty Drive and Power

All models come with a four-speed automatic transmission. When properly equipped, the Liberty can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Both two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive systems are offered on the Sport and Limited trims, while the Renegade is equipped with four-wheel drive only. The standard powertrain in all Liberty models is a 210 hp 3.7-liter V6 and a four-speed automatic transmission. Overall, the Jeep Liberty offers a pleasant driving experience. The ride is generally firm, but the Liberty smoothes over most bumps and is never punishing, even with the available 18-inch wheels. In off-road conditions, the Liberty is quite capable. With generous approach and departure angles and low-range gearing for 4x4 models, it can crawl over large rocks and logs. Four-wheel-drive models have Hill Descent Control, which pulses the brakes through the ABS to limit the vehicle's speed when driving down steep grades. Hill Start Assist is also standard. It holds the brakes on hills when the driver releases the pedal to prevent the vehicle from sliding backward.

2010 Jeep Liberty Design

The Liberty features Jeep's traditional seven-slot grille and trapezoidal fender flares that enhance the vehicle's side profile. Unlike many panoramic sunroofs offered today, Jeep's Sky Slider roof is made of canvas rather than glass. The fabric roof folds on itself as it opens, and Jeep says the top is leak-proof. The Liberty is unmistakable as a Jeep. The current model is 2.5 inches longer and 0.8 inch wider than the previous generation (2002-07), with a wheelbase that grows by 1.8 inches. Its tall, upright, angular styling fits with the current Jeep design idiom while also recalling the 1990s Cherokee. Whereas the last model had some soft lines and skewed 60/40 toward women buyers, Jeep feels the new model's more rugged looks will attract an even split of male/female buyers. The most noticeable aspect of the front end is Jeep's characteristic seven-slot grille, which is taller on this model. The grille is body color on Sport, chrome on Limited. The front fascia is body color on all, and the front air dam is removable to provide more ground clearance for off-roading.

Inside the 2010 Jeep Liberty

The Liberty's interior features a large floor console with cupholders, armrest and a storage area with a removable top tray. Both the left and right rear panels in the cargo area have tie-down loops for securing items to the load floor. The left rear panel houses a concealed compartment for jack storage and tools. Standard equipment includes SIRIUS satellite radio, electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes with brake assist, all-speed traction control, and electronic roll mitigation. The SkySlider option is a full-length open canvas sunroof that can slide accordion-style forward, backward or partially opened to any position in-between. A multimedia infotainment system with 30-gigabyte hard drive and navigation system is available. Though not luxurious, the interior of the Jeep Liberty is functional. Most drivers will like the high seating position. Head room in the front seat is plentiful, but the tallest drivers will want more available front leg room. The side mirrors are large and the cabin has a lot of glass, making for fine rear visibility. The second row offers lots of head room. Leg room is decent, even with the front seats all the way back. Cargo space is about average for the class. The second-row seats fold flat in an easy one-step process to yield 64.6 cubic feet of cargo space (slightly less than the previous generation).With the seats up there is 31.2 cubic feet of cargo room, which is plenty of room for hauling groceries with the kids in the vehicle .The available fold-flat front-passenger seat allows for loading long items. In back, Jeep provides a shallow under-floor storage area with a reversible cover that is carpeted on one side and formed into a plastic tray on the other. Cargo tie-down hooks are also provided to secure loose items. The load floor is fairly low, making it easy to load heavy cargo.
